Meneghetti Garden

Location
The Meneghetti estate is woven into a network of dry Mediterranean grassland, oak forests and coastal macchia not far from the seashore. Its presence in the natural environment is only revealed in the grid of vineyards and olive groves and the occasional dusty macadam road.
Design note
About 1 ha of a fertile valley, framed by low oak trees and macchia, in its naturally elliptical shape has accommodated the idea of expanding the existing vegetable garden into a visual spectacle that will retain its utilitarian function, but will also be a place for research, meetings, a market and an open-air tasting room.
Although it could be a vegetable garden in the footsteps of the English kings, fenced and filled with exotic plants, because there is no lack of will and creativity, the idea of moderation and subtlety, and perhaps modesty, led us in the direction of the ideal of "Istrian contadine" as a more appropriate and closer expression.
The idea of the garden is built around the natural shape of an ellipse, the edges of which are emphasized by laying a grassy path around which various fruit trees are arranged. The garden is built inward in terms of composition and form, by dividing the planting areas from the edges towards the center where a small and romantic greenhouse is located. It is located at the intersection of two axes that also represent the main paths through the garden. Mulberry trees placed on the sides emphasize the importance of the greenhouse with an open square at the entrance where a water motif, benches, edible and cut flowers, and benches for sitting are located. The main entrance to the garden is located on the shorter axis and visually directs the visitor to the greenhouse as the central starting point and accent in the space.
